Wow, I’m back!
1. July 2009 by admin.
Thomas here.
Wow, I have to apologize for my lack of communication lately. I’ll try not to let it happen again. Too much “stuff” going on in my world. Do you feel that the world gets busier with each passing day?
My book that I have been writing and talking about so much, is finally complete. There are some snafus with the formatting that I am working on at the moment. The good news, with all the delays, I came up with extra bonus materials that are going to be so beneficial to the reader.
Here in Michigan where I live, summer is in full bloom. It is a great time for fresh vegetables and luscious fruits to be available. I love to take advantage of local farm markets and buy fresh local grown raw nutrition.
There is quite a movement towards organic fruits and vegetables. If you can find a good source, try to cultivate a relationship with the vendor or farmer. Let them know that you are interested in their products and appreciate the quality. They may put you on a preferred customer list and give you a “heads up” when their produce is about to ripen and hit the market.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has a list of the “dirty dozen” based on pesticide residue. So it is in your best interest to choose organic when buying apples, celery, bell peppers, lettuce, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, cherries, and imported grapes.
Another great thing about summer is grilling fresh vegetables and lean meats on the grill. There are so many great recipes to try, so this is your time to experiment. My favorite is a large fish fillet (trout, bass, salmon) diced Vidalia onions, green bell peppers, carrots, and a Cajun seasoning, all wrapped together in tin foil and placed on the grill until done.
Oh yeah, a couple pats of butter placed on the fillet works wonders. Mmmm good!
Grilling caution: Always cook vegetables at lower heat on the grill. When vegetables are exposed to high heat, it can produce ACE’s, an advanced glycation end product. (I don’t fully understand some of this stuff) But ACE’s can cause internal inflammation and cellular stress, which can lead to type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.
Another caution, when exposing fat, amino acids (protein), sugars, and muscle fiber in meat, poultry and fish to high heat and flame, it can generate carcinogens. Eating these charred meats often, can increases your risk of colon cancer significantly. So try to cook slowly over low to medium heat and flame.
Remember to combine a protein with your carbohydrates for a balanced meal or snack. There is a bunch more great information and step-by-step ways to put healthy balanced meals together to help control your blood sugar in my new book. It will be available soon. Really. Not kidding.
I have a free excerpt of a sample meal from “The BetesBuster Plan”. It is a meal using the Glycemic Index and balancing it out with the correct amount of proteins. As you can see, you won’t go hungry. There are charts in the book where you just go down the list and pick one food from each column, and “poof”, you have a balanced meal. (An apology gift for the delay in this newsletter).
Thanks again for allowing me to share some of my stuff with you. Always feel free to shoot me an email with any burning hot questions or just to let me know what you may want to know more of. (Type 2 diabetes related)
To your health,
Thomas Fouts
SAMPLE DAILY MEAL (from the BetesBuster Plan)
Breakfast: q One cup steel-cut oats (cooked)q ½ apple cut up small pieces or dicedq ½ teaspoon cinnamonq 2 tablespoons of walnut piecesq 2 tablespoons of dried cranberries or cherriesq ¼ - ½ cup skim milk (soy milk optional)Mix the ingredients together.Mid-Morning Snack:q ½ cup low-fat or no-fat cottage cheeseq 1tablespoon low sugar strawberry jam
Mix the jam in the cottage cheese
Lunch:
q 4oz of Tuna fish (canned)
q 1 tablespoon low fat mayonnaise
q 1 tablespoon salsa
q mustard (you decide how much)
q 1 Small diced dill pickle
q 1 slice toasted sourdough bread Mix first 5 ingredients and spread on toasted bread or put in a small whole grain pita. (weigh-less option: wrap in a lettuce leaf)Mid-Afternoon Snack:
q 1 Peach, Pear, or Plum, washed
q 1 Hard-boiled egg
Dinner:
q 3-4oz of chicken breast with lemon/pepper seasoningq 1 cup (or more) Steamed Broccoli and red peppersq 1 serving sweet potato or yam
Evening Snack:
q 1 small square of good dark chocolate (60%+ cacao)q 8-10 macadamia nuts or pecans Drink 8-10 ounces of water 20-30 minutes before your meal. Try not to drink much, if any with your meal, as this dilutes the stomach acids and slows down the digestive process. Always consume the purest water you can get your hands on.
Now that you have a full belly from eating all that healthy balanced nutrition, we need to exercise. I was just turned on to an interesting ebook by Keith Scott, called Unbreakable. It is a no nonsense and quite different approach designed to help you eliminate pain, physical shortcomings, and limiting conditions, freeing you up to persue new and exciting physical adventures you never thought possible again. 10 Steps To Prevent, Control, Or Reverse Type II Diabetes
21. February 2009 by admin.
I am just about finished with the first edition of my book. The book is my story on how I came to know type II diabetes, and what I did with the information. After all the research and realizing that type II diabetes is a lifestyle disease, I developed a plan. A plan to reverse my own diabetic trend. The plan turned into a concept that I would like to share with others.
Until my book gets completely finished and edited, here is a Free PDF called “10 Steps To Prevent, Control, Or Reverse Type II Diabetes”. It is a brief summery of steps to take but certainly not all-definitive. So if you are interested let me know where to send it by filling in the form below. I’ll also keep you updated on the release of my book

Monitor Your Blood Sugar Effectively
22. January 2009 by admin.
For a person living with diabetes the main goal is to keep your blood sugar within reasonable parameters. That is the reason for taking medications, exercising, and eating healthy foods with intent. It is all about keeping your blood sugar at an even keel, instead of spiking up and down like a roller coaster.
What steps do you take to know if your efforts are working? We test. If you don’t test on a regular basis, how do you know what foods you can eat, and how much exercise you can do safely, without spiking your blood sugar count? It is important to know these results so you can optimize your strategies for better health and reverse the conditions that diabetes brings.
It all starts out with finding the right testing equipment that you are the most comfortable with. Nobody likes poking himself or herself, so find the lancet or lancing pen that works best for you. Maybe an alternative site-testing (palm, forearm, thigh) device is your choice. Whatever you choose, be comfortable with it so you do regular tests. If you poke your fingertip, stick the side of your finger near the fingernail to avoid having sore fingertips or pads.
When making a choice of a testing meter, find a provider that has several different makes and models. Have them explain each one and even sample them to get one that suits you. Make sure your testing meter is calibrated correctly. Ask your healthcare provider for help if you don’t understand how to do this. Also check with your insurance company to see if that particular one is covered. These testing supplies are expensive. (Check eBay for test strips at a lower cost)
How often to test? Everybody is different. If you are taking medication for diabetes, your doctor should advise you when and how often to test. But don’t let that keep you from testing if you think something may be askew. People taking insulin, testing times may be different that those on oral medications. There are a lot of variables.
Do you know what to do if your test results are too low? If your blood sugar tests show 70mg/dl or under, it is too low and you should consume about 12-18 grams of carbohydrates soon. Don’t wait for symptoms of hypoglycemia to develop, even if you feel okay at the moment. Plan ahead as to what carbs work best for you to bring up your blood sugar quickly. It may be glucose tablets, orange juice, honey, regular soda, sugar dissolved in water, whatever, you need to know how much to ingest. Then check your blood sugar about 15-20 minutes after eating of drinking the carbohydrates.
When your blood sugar test numbers are too high, (you and your doctor need to be on the same page with this) for too long, call your doctor. Sometimes, stress, illness, traumatic experience, new, or other medications can cause spikes or elevated blood sugar counts.
My 89-year-old mother, who maintained her blood sugar levels between 94-130 with proper eating and one oral medication, was prescribed Prednisone (a steroid). It had a profound effect on her blood sugar. Her count soared to 750+ for several days before landing her in the hospital. She still lives alone, and was disoriented from such high levels of blood sugar, that she was forgetting to test. It can happen pretty quick, so read the pre-cautions and drug interaction warnings thoroughly.
Last thing, educate others close to you as to what symptoms hypoglycemia has and what action to take if you have problems with low blood sugar and can’t communicate. Carry identification that lets others know you are diabetic. It could save your life.
While it is possible to reverse the conditions that type II diabetes causes with nutrition, exercise and supplements, it takes commitment action and knowledge to succeed. I have done it. I am trying to educate others to not settle for living a life controlled by disease, medication, and fear. Fight the “beast” called diabetes. You must choose to live a healthier, more vibrant life, or continue to surrender to the ever-advancing negative conditions that diabetes causes.

Things That Promote Diabetes and Hinder Reversal
22. January 2009 by admin.
Thomas here.
When doing research on diabetes, what causes it, how to control it, and what steps are needed to overcome diabetes, I have discovered so many different things that contribute to the promotion of diabetes. These are things that make diabetes worse. It may be that if just some of these actions, conditions, or habits are changed, improvement in health may be gained.
So, not only by taking action to eat more nutritiously, exercising correctly, getting the proper vitamins, minerals and other supplements, you will increase your chances of success by eliminating diabetes inducing “things”. Some of these “things” are:
q Smoking
q Eating fast foods
q Excessive caffeine intake
q Belly fat
q Poor oral hygiene
q Excessive alcohol intake
q Sedentary lifestyle (lack of exercise)
q Exposure to unsafe or toxic chemicals
q Excessive stress (some stress is good)
These are just a few things to avoid. You will be helping yourself and improving your diabetic condition by reducing or eliminating those habits or actions.
There is another lesser-known issue that associated with obesity, diabetes and heart disease. That is inflammation. We are not talking about a cut on your finger that gets inflamed. That is acute inflammation. I am talking about chronic inflammation. It is low-grade inflammation that you can’t see or feel very easily.
Basically it is your whole body inflamed, especially the blood vessels. Unfortunately, if you have chronic inflammation you probably can’t tell. It is suspected that it may be a contributing factor of insulin resistance. Being inactive and overweight may also promote inflammation.
Do some research on inflammation and see how diet and exercise can help overcome inflammation or prevent it. The nutrition/meal selection chapters of my upcoming book will help you prevent and overcome chronic inflammation as well as get you healthy. You will find that nutrition is a very, very big part of preventing, controlling or reversing the conditions of diabetes.
For a FREE pdf called “59 Tips on Eats, Meats, Sweets, and Feets” just enter your name and email address and submit. You will also be emailed the free DiabetesPanicButton Newsletter every other week. It is full of information discovered about how to reverse diabetes and other great tips.
To your improving health,
Thomas

Happy New Year! A Year for Renewed Hope and Change
10. January 2009 by admin.
Thomas here.
I hope everyone had a great holiday season and a happy new year! I kind of got caught up in a lot of holiday activities and extra care for my mother, so I apologize for this edition of the newsletter being late. I’ll try to make it up to you with great information.
The New Year (2009) can be your best year, a year where you choose to make positive changes. Choose to fight diabetes, choose to be healthy. You can do it. Break it down and do it one step at a time. Start by altering your diet to be healthy nutritionally balanced meals.
I don’t believe anyone sets out on a journey to become a diabetic, unhealthy, and/or overweight on purpose. What happens is, somewhere along the line, gradually, slowly over time, without even being aware of it, we give in, or even give up. If you are overweight it can be a struggle to exercise. And with all the junk food advertised and put before us, it can be a challenge to eat nutritiously. Another real problem is it costs more to eat healthy in most cases. So with a declining economy and cutbacks, it is so easy to eat cheaper, less healthy foods.
We give up our values and dreams one by one. When people let go of their physical bodies, it is simply, the beginning of the end.
Decide to turn that trend around! Real change always starts on the inside. So be honest with yourself, get committed and take action. Remember, if you do what you have always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten. So decide to make a change. Don’t do what got you to this point anymore.
You don’t have to be perfect to reach the level of control that can keep you healthy.
Develop a reasonable behavioral plan that can help you achieve those goals, then relax!
Get perspective. Instead of criticizing yourself for the occasional lapse, give yourself
credit for all of your positive efforts to manage diabetes. Everyone needs a pat on the
back, and you probably deserve one.
Your environment, whether you notice it or not, influences your ability to manage diabetes. Having willpower isn’t enough. You need to harness the power of your environment to support, rather than hinder, your diabetes care.
Let’s think about this. How well you eat is affected by the number of tempting foods in your house, and the size of the portions on your plate. Maybe it is time to clean out the pantry and snack shelf. Use smaller plates. Eat smaller portions. If you absolutely need more, then just eat 2 more bites rather than another plate full. There are lot of little things you can do to help. You just need to take action and do them.
The two most important steps to success are be honest with yourself and know with crystal clear clarity why you want to choose to fight diabetes. What are the benefits you will receive when your diabetes is under control or even reversed? What complications caused by diabetes do you want to avoid, reduce or reverse? Think about these things.
There are actually many more steps needed to achieve success. But without first getting your “inner game” straight, it will be same-o same-o. The other steps are easier to achieve. They can be learned through teaching, books, videos, research, and just plain old experimenting.
Good news! I am getting towards the end of writing my book. My book will explain what steps I took to reverse the diagnosis of type II diabetes. I will give you a chance to get it for free, or get a 75% discount, when the time comes. So stay tuned. (think contest)
Also what I am working on, is a 3-4 page step-by-step, information-filled, abbreviated core plan, that when followed will give you a fast start so you can see results quickly and know it’s working. You can adjust it to fit your needs as long as you stick with the basic rules. I hope this will really help some people “take action” right away, as it will be simple, and to the point.
The New Year to me is always a sign of new hope. Even facing a sagging economy, there will be a lot of good that comes from it. We have a new president that is giving many people a renewed sense of hope. As bad as it gets, let’s not forget how blessed we are for what we have, for we could be starving, drinking fetid water, living in war-torn neighborhoods, or being tortured as so many have. Lift up your hearts to others, but take care of your health first, so you can help others.
To your health,
Thomas

Overweight? The Glycemic Index Can Help
12. December 2008 by admin.
Have you heard of the glycemic index? Maybe you have been using it to eat healthier already. The glycemic index is not just some “Johnny come lately” diet fad thing. It is a well-researched, medically sound, scientific informational index, based on how carbohydrates work in your body.
If you are tired of fad diets, or just can’t seem to lose weight, this may be just what you need. As we talked about in previous issues, insulin resistance is a big factor in weight gain and preventing weight loss. The glycemic index will help you decrease insulin resistance or help keep you from becoming insulin resistant. Your blood sugar will stay at a more even keel when following a healthy diet using the glycemic index.
When you have elevated insulin levels for extended periods of time, all kinds of conditions can occur. Weight gain is a big one. It is the major cause of type 2 diabetes. Elevated insulin levels can also be responsible for impaired kidney function, high LDL cholesterol, inflammation, thickening artery walls, and a deficiency in the mineral magnesium. There are many more issues caused by high insulin levels than listed here.
When you have deficient amounts of magnesium, you have less energy, which can lead to overeating or binge eating. Inadequate amounts of magnesium can also lead to high blood pressure, muscle cramps, and constricting of the blood vessels. A diet featuring low-glycemic foods will decrease your levels of insulin and enhance your levels of magnesium.
When using the glycemic index based diet, you will have so many positive benefits. The main one is that you won’t be starving yourself. You will feel more “satisfied” eating the low-glycemic way. An increase in energy is always a welcome feeling. You will feel that energy boost. You can finally overcome that late-afternoon energy crash. Mental alertness increases and a “feel-good” feeling increases.
Moods can be controlled better when you are not eating large loads of high-glycemic foods. When eating foods in the high glycemic range, your body produces more insulin, which increases the level of stress hormones. Not a good thing. Too much stress hormones (cortisol) can lead to weight gain, anxiety, panic attacks, jittery nerves, or wild mood swings.
By using the glycemic index correctly, we can lose weight, get a flatter tummy, better, deeper sleep, better regularity, improvements to skin, hair and nails, and better aging qualities. The list of benefits goes on and on.
You can reduce your risk of many bad things by eating a diet based on the glycemic index like; type 2 diabetes, depression, anxiety, heart disease, kidney ailments, high blood pressure, maybe even some cancers, and alzheimer’s and dementia.
The glycemic index diet is not going to work unless you take action, change your mindset about how you eat, actually follow the guidelines, and believe this is a lifestyle change, not just a fad diet. If you do that, healthier weight loss and healthier living is within reach. In just weeks, a new energetic, vibrant YOU will be smiling inside and out!
For a FREE pdf called “59 Tips on Eats, Sweets, Meats and Feets” enter your first name and email address. You will also be enrolled to receive the DiabetesPanicButton Newsletter for free. It is distributed bi-weekly. Great information for people living with diabetes or want to prevent diabetes.

Are You in Charge of Your Life?
1. December 2008 by admin.
Everyone has problems and issues. Despite the common misconception, our problems do not keep us from success and happiness. What keeps us from experiencing success and happiness is we become so focused on them, that we don’t let go and move past the issue.
Diabetes is the kind of problem that if we focus on all the conditions and issues it brings, we can get stuck, paralyzed, with “woe is me” thinking. Instead of succumbing to negative thoughts and talking about what is wrong with me today, challenge yourself to overcome your unhealthy condition. Take this first step. Do it for yourself.
Go to the library and read about diabetes. Go get on a computer and look up insulin and its effects on the body. Research natural nutrition for diabetics. Be careful of the American Diabetic Association recommendations for meal planning. Look up your condition that you want to conquer. Study different ways of using alternative methods for stress reduction, relaxation and getting a better night’s sleep. Knowledge is power and vital, to understanding what you need to fight your condition caused by diabetes.
I know how important learning about “what is diabetes”, what it affects, how it is directly affected by what we consume, and how to control it. When my doctor told me I had diabetes, I realized that I really didn’t “know” much at all about this disease. How much did you know? It wasn’t until I did all the research, interviewed doctors, dieticians, natural health practitioners, dentists, foot doctors, and started putting together my own plan to reverse my diabetes, that I “started” to understand what diabetes is.
I am currently finishing up, writing a book about what I discovered about diabetes. Through trial and error, I found a method that works for me to control diabetes and even reverse some if not all of the conditions. I’ll tell you now, nutrition, proper balanced nutrition is the key. Exercise and relaxation is another big part of it. It has been a real eye-opener for me. The information that I have shared with others, so far, has brought good results for them, so I am excited that it may help many people fight the “beast” called diabetes.
Through all the pages of research, all the knowledge gained from interviewing professionals, all the advice given, and the most important thing I learned was…
You have to choose to make a change in your life, and take decisive action. All the knowledge learned will not help you gain your health back if you do not commit to make a lifestyle change. So think about what you are doing now, what you would like to change, and how wonderful you would feel when you achieve your desired outcome. My own newfound health and happiness is a direct result of choice + action. It works!
In the upcoming weeks, some of you may want to read my book, use it to develop your own plan to get healthier, lose weight, and fight the “beast” called diabetes. Then, tell me what was the most valuable tidbit, how well it worked, what didn’t work for you, and suggestions or comments. I’ll let you know when and how to get your free copy soon.
Enter your name and primary email address to receive a Free diabetic tips pdf. called

Prevent Pre-Diabetes- 5 Tips You Must Know Now
15. October 2008 by admin.
Here are five basic, but very good relevant tips on how to prevent pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes can lead to type 2 diabetes, which can cause all kinds of health problems if not controlled. It is for the most part, a lifestyle disease. So, you have the power to prevent it by living a healthy nutritious, active lifestyle. You can do it!
1. Go see your health care provider (doctor) and request a simple, easy to do, glucose test. This is your first step towards finding out if you have pre-diabetes, or are at risk to develop diabetes. By having this test done, this gives you an idea of where your health baseline is at on that day. From that point forwards, you and your doctor can monitor any symptoms of pre-diabetes and future tests can show if you are moving towards or away from pre-diabetes. Your doctor can be a valuable resource for information, but you should also take it upon yourself to learn natural ways to prevent pre-diabetes. Become knowledgeable.
2. Learn about nutrition. Diabetes is a lifestyle disease for the most part. Nutrition/food is the most important aspect in the fight to avoid diabetes. You need to be aware of what you are feeding your body and the effects food has on your health. By eating a balanced nutritious diet, you can keep your blood sugar levels normal. Learn what foods are beneficial and proven to help prevent pre-diabetes and develop a natural, more healthy eating plan that you adapt as a lifestyle, not a diet.
3. While eating a healthier, more nutritious meal plan will make you a much more vibrant, energetic person, you may still need to add supplements to your daily routine. These supplements (nutraceuticals) can be targeted towards the prevention of specific health issues. Added to your daily diet, these supplements can greatly increase your body’s immune system and give it the minerals and vitamins it needs for optimum health and efficiency. Some recommended supplements for people with pre-diabetes are; chromium, magnesium, alpha lipoic acid, biotin, cinnamon, and vitamins A, C, D, and E. Always check with your doctor to make sure that they will work with your overall health plan.
4. Exercise. Yes, exercise is an essential component in the fight to prevent pre-diabetes. If you are overweight, (a high percentage of at-risk people for diabetes are) then by eating healthy and exercising, and losing just 5-10% of your bodyweight, you will decrease your chance of pre-diabetes by 58%! When you exercise and build muscle, it helps decrease insulin resistance and lowers blood sugar. Insulin resistance a lot of times is the reason people can’t lose weight. Make a plan to exercise 3-5 days a week. Start out slow and gradually increase your intensity until your stamina builds, noticing physical changes, and an improved mental clarity.
5. Get enough sleep. You need to rest so your body can rejuvenate. This is more important than you realize. 7 to 9 hours of good sleep usually is sufficient. Also, try to minimize stress in your life. I know that in its’ self is stressful. Stress can trigger bad eating habits, weight gain, irritability, sleeplessness, and a host of other problems. Exercise helps reduce stress. Avoid toxic people and chemicals. Many toxins in food, water, pesticides, cosmetics, plastics, and even some pharmaceutical medications can be linked to problems such as food bingeing, obesity, insulin resistance and stress. Naturally, by avoiding as many toxins as possible will not only increase your health, but may help in preventing pre-diabetes.
